Two fictional scales
| Warp | Original series (w³) | TNG (≈ w10/3) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 c | 1 c |
| 2 | 8 c | 10 c |
| 5 | 125 c | 214 c |
| 9 | 729 c | ≈ 1,500 c |
Above warp 9 the Next Generation scale rises much more steeply than w10/3 and reaches infinity at warp 10.
A power law, not an exponential
Doubling the warp factor multiplies the speed by about ten (210/3 ≈ 10). An exponential scale would multiply the speed by a fixed factor for every single step.
In real physics
In general relativity, the speed of a warp bubble is a free parameter of the geometry, and the cost of a given speed depends on the bubble design. There is no standard “warp factor”.
